• The non-resident has a valid, non-expired medical marijuana card from his/her home state, and
• The non-resident’s home state exempts cardholders from criminal prosecution for medical marijuana use, and
• The law of the non-resident’s home state requires that physicians advise patients that medical marijuana use may help their symptoms as a precondition to the state issuing patients a medical marijuana card, and
• The non-resident’s home state maintains a database through which Nevada authorities may verify his/her card’s validity. (NRS 372A)
Note that the non-resident must abide by Nevada’s rules regarding quotas for possessing medical marijuana. It is irrelevant whether his/her home state allows cardholders to possess more medical marijuana than Nevada does.
If the legalization initiative is passed in November of 2016, you will be able to purchase cannabis with any valid form of government-issued identification proving that you are over the age of 21.
Dispensaries will also sell a number of other types of marijuana products, including but not limited to:
• Concentrates: essential oils of the cannabis plant. Warning: these can be very potent!
• Edibles: Cannabis infused foods, candies, or drinks. Warning: These can be very potent! Be sure to check the serving size before enjoying and remember the effects can take up to an hour to hit you.
• Transdermal Products (Topicals): creams, lotions, massage oils and such infused with cannabis. These products are not psychoactive and will not get you high.
• Seeds: seeds that can be used to grow your own marijuana plants. Stores will have many different strains of Indicas and Sativas.
• Clones: healthy seedlings that are ready be grown.
Without your Nevada Medical Marijuana Card, cannabis possession for personal use under one ounce is punishable by a maximum of $600, but you may be submitted to a drug addiction screening.
Dabs are often compared to the hard liquor of the cannabis world, and can be found in many forms. Dabs are the essential oils and waxes of the cannabis plant that are extracted and concentrated into a potent wax form. They are known for their high concentration of THC. Smoking a dab is much stronger than smoking flowers. If you are not a regular cannabis consumer with a high tolerance, we recommend using extreme caution.
If you’re considering purchasing or doing a dab, it is also important to know what is in the essential oil being offered or sold and if it is safe. Many extracts may not have been purged correctly, and may contain residual amounts of butane or other solvents. CO2 oil is often noted as the safest oil because critical extraction machines that use CO2 as the only solvent extract it. If Initiative Petition 1 is passed on the eighth of November, the public will likely have access to clean and tested concentrates through state licensed retail shops.

Marijuana is big business in Nevada and California, and illegal growers have been known to use violence or kill if they feel threatened or think their crop is at risk. Outdoor cultivation on National Forest land is illegal and many times growers in these regions are associated with organized crime. If Initiative Petition 1 is passed on the eighth of November, hopefully the demand for “black market” grass will drop significantly, and these illegal grows will grow fewer.
